When you are scouting a day or two in advance to your hunt take into account every aspect possible of the area you are about to hunt. Where the birds are coming from, what time, why are they landing or feeding they way they are. Where will we hide in several different wind scenarios, where will we park the trucks or where will we pack in from. Being able to have an answer for almost any scenario will make you a more skilled hunter and more successful day in and day out. - Eric Strand |
Get to know your birds. Be a student of ducks and geese and their behavior. If you know what triggers birds to migrate, feed in different crops, mate, rest, etc. it will make you a better hunter and more respectful of the resource. - Eric Strand |
Keep a journal. If you begin to map bird movements and your success in different locations against weather patterns, water levels, major rain events, storms, etc. You will become a much more successful waterfowler by understanding waterfowl patterns and weather patterns. - Eric Strand |
